Sports Court Marking FAQ
Common questions about court line marking, repainting and the surface preparation needed for durable game lines.
How long does it take to mark or repaint a sports court?
A single-game repaint over a sound existing coating can usually be completed in a weekend possession of the court. A full multi-game repaint with substrate repair and a fresh coating system typically takes several days, including planned drying time between coats. We confirm a realistic schedule with the building owner before starting.
Can you repaint over an existing court coating?
Often, yes. The existing coating must be tightly bonded to the substrate. Loose or flaking sections are removed first by pressure washing. If the existing coating is failing across large areas, we strip it back further and recoat from the sealer up.
How soon after laying a new concrete slab can you coat and mark it?
For waterbased acrylic sports floor coatings, the substrate needs to be cured. As an example, the Berger Sports Floor Coating product specification calls for a minimum 21-day cure on new concrete and a moisture content below 6% before coating begins.
Can you put more than one game layout on the same court?
Yes. We regularly mark multi-game courts: for example basketball, badminton, volleyball and netball on a single hall floor, with each game in its own line colour. The dominant game uses the most visible colour; the others are kept clear but secondary.
What line colours do you use?
Colour choice follows the rule book for the dominant game and the contrast against the floor base. White, yellow, black, red and green are the most common line colours. We confirm colour priority with the client before painting.
Do you handle outdoor courts in the wet season?
Outdoor court work is weather-dependent. Waterbased acrylic coatings need a dry substrate and a clear drying window between coats. We typically plan outdoor jobs during dry-weather windows, with contingency for rain delays. Indoor jobs are weather-independent.
Do you provide a warranty?
Warranty terms depend on the coating system and the scope. For straightforward repaints, we cover workmanship for an agreed period. For full coating systems, we apply the manufacturer's system warranty terms where they apply. We document warranty terms in the quotation.
How do I get a quotation?
Send recent photos of the existing surface plus approximate dimensions and the games to be marked. We will respond with an indicative range and arrange a brief site visit to confirm scope and provide a written quotation.
